Fenners was established in 1973, making us one of the younger East Anglian barristers’ chambers. Yet we have grown steadily in size and reputation since then, to become the top-rated East of England chambers in the Legal 500 Directory. Many of our earlier members are now full-time circuit, district and tribunal judges.
There are currently 50 members of chambers (including two QCs holding door tenancies), some of whom sit part-time as tribunal or district judges. We continue to enjoy growth in our numbers and in our work, reflecting our reputation.
Where to find us
Our chambers is based at 3 Madingley Road, a large property with substantial grounds in the university quarter of the city, which we acquired in 1990 and incorporates ample parking and conference facilities.
Fenners and Cambridge
Fenners maintains close links with the city and its legal profession. We support a locally-based charity each year and maintain contact with both Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin Universities. We are one of the few barristers’ chambers whose members are also members of the local Law Society. That reflects our view that all lawyers are part of one larger profession, of which barristers are an important component.
We have always sought to maintain a collegiate spirit, a sense of friendliness, and a degree of informality. At the same time we strive to maintain a rigorous approach to law and legal practice, and recognise the importance of taking professional ethics and standards seriously. We hope that these qualities are apparent to the solicitors, fellow professionals and members of the public who engage our services.
